What is Smart Bangladesh?

Smart Bangladesh is a commitment of the Government of Bangladesh which plans to transform the country from Digital Bangladesh to Smart Bangladesh by 2041. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the first to announce this promise.

History:

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first talked about building a 'Smart Bangladesh' in her chief guest address at a function organized to celebrate Digital Bangladesh Day-2022 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital on 12th December 2022. Sheikh Hasina said, we will make Bangladesh a developed country in 2041 and Bangladesh will become smart Bangladesh from Digital Bangladesh.

Plan:

There are 4 foundations to build 'Smart Bangladesh'. These are – smart citizen, smart economy, smart government and smart society.

Smart Bangladesh will not have any remaining transformation if progress is made by identifying four specific areas in the construction of Smart Bangladesh. All services and media will be transformed into digital through smart citizen and smart government. And if smart society and smart economy ensure growth, it will play a helpful role in creating an inclusive society and building a business-friendly environment.

'Smart Bangladesh will be cost-effective, sustainable, knowledge-based, intelligent and innovative. In a word, everything will be smart. Such as ensuring smart healthcare, smart transport, smart utilities, urban governance, public safety, agricultural internet connectivity and disaster management for implementation of smart cities and smart villages. One student, one laptop, one dream initiative has been mentioned to ensure the participation of students online. Under this, all digital services will be brought under a centrally integrated cloud. The Bangladesh government has already changed the name of Digital Bangladesh Task Force to 'Smart Task Force'.

Formation of Task Force:

Government of Bangladesh has constituted 'Smart Bangladesh Task Force with 30 members to build Smart Bangladesh'. The chairperson of this task force is the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Remaining 29 members. The functions of this task force were as follows:

Formulation of action plan to build Smart Bangladesh:

1. Smart teacher: Minister of Education Dr. Deepu Moni says, He who is honest is smart. He who is secular is smart. He who is sympathetic is smart. So skilled, qualified and creative people will be our smart citizens. So, to create these smart citizens, first of all, smart teachers are needed. Therefore, necessary measures should be taken to create smart teachers.

2. ICT based multimedia class room: ICT based multimedia class room should be arranged to promote modern technology based education. Teachers should show more interest in using multimedia classes.

3. Setting up of ICT labs: ICT labs should be set up in every educational institution to increase the technical knowledge of teachers and students. The use of multimedia and smart boards in the classroom is being strongly encouraged.

4. Technology Knowledge Enhancement: New courses should be introduced to enhance the technology knowledge of the students. Higher education programs should be conducted by giving special importance to the research sector.

5. Imparting knowledge: Through digital content, a teacher can take students around the world. Teachers need to know the use of computers, labpots and use them more.

Therefore, everyone must work together to build a smart Bangladesh by connecting students with modern information technology-based education. Everyone should be a partner in building a Smart Bangladesh announced by the Prime Minister for the development of the country, soil and people.
